 Hi All!

Just a quick note that the planning details are finally
solidifying for our next WCRC tourney: Saturday, March 4,
at San Jose State University.

This tournament will in fact be USRA sanctioned! It's
Official! (See http://www.californiaracquetball.org/ -
Tournament Calendar.) This is very valuable for you and
for the growth of the WCRC - It will mean that we are
nationally recognized as a collegiate racquetball
division!

In order to be a sanctioned tournament, each participant
will need to join the USRA. And, just today I was able to
secure a $5 discount for new members who signup at the
tournament. You can get a USRA membership at the
tournament for only $25 (cash), which includes:
 - One-year subscription to RACQUETBALL Magazine
 - Secondary medical insurance
 - Tournament Eligibility - Essentially all tournaments,
other than our earlier two tournaments, require a USRA
membership. There are a lot of exciting public
tournaments out there, and you will need to be a USRA
member to play in them.
 - Access to Elite Training opportunities
 - National ranking services
 - And much, much more ... see http://www.usra.org and
click "Member Services".

The tournament date is a little close to our last
tournament, but it is even closer to Collegiate
Nationals: March 29 - April 1 at Arizona State
University, Tempe AZ. See:
 https://webpoint.usra.org/wp/Events/ViewTournament.asp?EventID=127956

Oh, and we will be using Penn racquetballs at this
tourney.

More details will follow ... Please forward this on to
your team.

 Thanks,

Hi All,

We're going to be looking for your rosters within the next
week. The cutoff date for rosters is end of day Thursday,
March 2nd. We will publish the draw by Friday evening
with a starting schedule for the first round of matches.

Our goal with this tournament is to have a published
schedule of matches, giving the players some opportunity
to anticipate the start time of their next matches.
Consequently, we cannot make too many accommodations and
changes to the schedule at the start of the tournament. So
get your players to the tournament or loose points!

Finally, we're considering running a parallel tournament
of either Rock-Paper-Scissors, or Backgammon! Something
fun to do in between matches. Give us some feedback on
the level of interest in either, or both.

thanks,

-John Bardos

Hi All ...

NEW & IMPROVED
We have 8 courts for this tournament! Consequently, we
will be using one court for a concurrent doubles
tournament!!! Structure of the doubles tourney will be
based on the teams submitted, so please submit men's,
women's and mixed doubles teams with your team rosters.
Also, with the higher availability of courts, this
tournament will easily finish on time, and with more
racquetball!

2nd, including any doubles teams. We will publish the draw
by Friday evening with a starting schedule for the first
round of matches. Each school can bring guests &
spectators. However, we need to know the names of these
people in advance. Please send the names of any non-team
members who will be attending.

TOURNAMENT START TIME

4. Please arrive at approximately 8:30 am, and if you

membership.

These costs cover food, drinks, racquetballs, and USRA
sanctioning! There is a food court on campus about two
blocks away. The food provided at this tournament will be
similar to the food at the previous UC Davis tourney;
however there will be some more substantial lunch choices.

TOURNAMENT RULES
Due to time and space limitations, the following rules
will be in affect:
- Matches are 2 out of 3 games.
- The first 2 games are to 11 points, and
- The 3rd game, if necessary, is to 7 points.
- All games are decided by 1 point - first player to 11,
  or 7, points wins.
- Use the 10-second rule - 10 seconds between recovering
  the ball and serving.
- 5 minutes of warm up time before a match.
- Matches are self-refereed.
- All other USRA rules apply.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will use the "Olympic" format, which is
also used for Collegiate Nationals. We will have 3 men's
divisions, and one women's division.

Within each division, there will be four sub-divisions.
Players who loose a match will drop down into the lower
sub-divisions to continue playing. The specific structure
is:
Division #
	Gold
	Blue
	Red
	White

All players start in the Gold sub-division. A loss in
first round (of Gold) will put you in the Red division. A
loss in second round of Gold puts you in the Blue
division. A loss in first round of Red puts you in the
White division. Winning players continue to play within
their sub-division. Consequently, each player will play
at least 3 matches. This same structure is used for
Division 2 and Division 3.

Points are awarded based on your final standing at the end
of the tournament. A complete breakdown of the points
will be provided later, when finalized, however for
Division 1 the points may be like the following.
Division 1 First Second Third Fourth Other
Gold 280 210 175 140 70
Blue 142 124 115 106 88
Red 68 51 43 34 17
White 24 18 15 12 6
Note:
- Points are awarded based on your final standing at the
end of the tournament and are NOT accumulated over the
  course of the tournament.
- You must win at least one match, by the end of the
tournament, to be awarded any points.

For the women's division, points are awarded based on your
final standing at the end of the tournament:
Point Schedule
     1st	280
     2nd 218
     3rd	170
     4th	132
     5th	103
     6th	80
     ...

Points will be totaled for a team, and the team with the
most points wins.

See you soon at San Jose State!
