Spring 2007, Fullerton

Our first WCRC Southern California tourney was a lot of fun! We had 21 people: 19 men, and 2 women who completed quite well with the men. There were people from 7 different Southern California schools (!), and folks from UC Santa Cruz made the road trip. Everyone is excited about a big WCRC SoCal season next year.

Brian Pineda (Goldenwest) won the Men’s Division I followed closely by Jon Varona (CSU Fullerton). Both Brian and Jon, along with John Miano and Tim Cowan, have made the trip to the Northern California WCRC tourneys and we’re glad to see that they had a WCRC collegiate tournament in their neck of the woods.

Abhinav Tyagi (UC Irvine) won 1st and Tim Cowan (SDSU) won 2nd place in our combined Men’s & Women’s Div II & III ! Angel Yi finish 5th overall in this combined division, and we’re looking forward to such a strong women’s player next year!

Brian Pineda v John Bardos
I filled in for a no-show ("they let me play" ) ...
Yes, that's me jumping (having to) and
Brian Pineda ripping a winner (I'm sure)
down the line.

Thank you Mickey Bellah for bringing us into the Meridian Club, and letting us use the 2 glass back wall courts, and 6 other courts!

Thank you John Ellis for the Ektelon Fireballs and for working with Mickey, Jon Varona and I to get make this tourney happen.

And, a HUGE thank you to John Varona for finding so many college contacts, emailing everyone, and building the momentum to have such a good turnout - especially since it was so late in the year!

Thank you Ektelon providing the racquetballs and helping to make this tournament happen!
