The Claremont tournament was a huge success in bringing intercollegiate
racquetball to Southern California for the second time in WCRC
history. The tournament consisted of 19 students (16 men and 3
women) from 4 different schools, who battled across two different
divisions (DI and a combined DII/DIII).
Brian Swendseid, of the Claremont Colleges, won the DII/DIII
division after narrowly escaping Jeffrey Weiss (Claremont) in
a tiebreaker in the semifinals. In Division I, Jon Varona (Fullerton)
finished first in the round robin draw, causing a lot of frustration
with his vast shot-selection.
The three women showed the guys that they have game. Paige Maas
made it to the semi-finals in the Gold division, and Elizabeth
Ng won the Red division.
